Portland Roof Renovation – Hidden Damage
This roof on Portland looked perfectly fine from above, but the customer had noticed mould developing inside the property — a clear sign that something wasn't right.
Once we stripped the roof back, we found that the deck had completely rotted around a poorly installed through-roof fitting, allowing water to get into the structure and cause significant hidden damage.
Rather than simply repairing the affected area, we removed and replaced the entire roof boarding before installing a new Cure It GRP fibreglass roofing system.
While we were there, we also made a few improvements to the property. One of the existing extractor fan vents wasn't really serving much purpose, so we removed it, eliminating an unnecessary roof penetration.
The customer also wanted to make better use of the space, so we created an additional covered area for storing bikes.
We also fabricated and installed new Code 5 lead flashings around the new roof , providing a clean and watertight finish.
The roof was finished with a non-slip surface at no additional cost, as the customer may look to use the roof as a balcony in the future. This means the roof is already finished with a practical, hard-wearing surface should its use change down the line.
Another example of why a roof can look fine on the surface while serious problems are developing underneath. Sometimes the only way to know what's really going on is to strip it back and investigate properly.

Balcony Renovation – Back to the Joists
We recently completed the renovation of a badly deteriorated balcony that had seen plenty of patching and repairs over the years.
The customer had done everything he could to keep the existing balcony going, but eventually there was only one sensible option — strip it back to the joists and start again properly.
We removed the existing layers and exposed the underlying structure, allowing us to address the problems properly rather than simply covering them up again.
The balcony was then rebuilt with new decking and finished with a Cure It GRP fibreglass roofing system, complete with a slate chip non-slip finish — providing a durable, waterproof and practical surface for a balcony.
We also added a tile-effect detail to the lower section of the balcony. This was a bit of fun to create and gave the finished project a really nice bespoke touch.
Sometimes another patch isn't the answer. When the underlying structure has deteriorated, the best solution is to take it back to a sound base and rebuild it properly.
Another balcony brought back to life and finished with a hard-wearing slate chip non-slip surface.

Warm Roof Installation & Bespoke Drainage Solution
We recently completed the refurbishment of a poorly designed and incorrectly installed warm roof.
The original roof had already been poorly fibreglassed, and an attempt had been made to fibreglass over the existing installation. Unfortunately, overlaying an existing GRP roof isn't always a suitable solution. If there are underlying issues with the roof structure, falls, drainage or the original installation, these problems can remain — and remedial work may still be required.
In this case, we stripped the existing roof back and redesigned the drainage system from the ground up.
The original roof had a drainage outlet positioned in the centre, creating an unsuitable drainage arrangement and bringing water through the building. We installed an internal gutter, directing rainwater towards a through-parapet hopper, allowing the water to discharge safely outside the property.
One of the more interesting parts of the job was fabricating our own bespoke outlet to suit the new drainage arrangement. We really enjoy jobs like this — where a bit of problem-solving and fabrication is needed to create a solution that works properly rather than simply working around an existing problem.
Once the drainage was sorted, we reinstated the warm roof and finished it with a professional Cure It GRP fibreglass roofing system.
Another challenging project completed with a bespoke solution and, most importantly, a roof designed to drain correctly.
